CHARITY

vancouverroe2072_small.jpg

We brag about how proud we are
Of our great gifts to charity.
But really, should we take such pride
In this state of humanity?

The poor are not a second class.
It isn't what they want to be.
They're poor because they cannot climb
Our vertical economy.

No one should have to beg for health.
We have responsibility;
But for ill health beyond control
The stricken should not pay a fee.

It should be free to reach out to
The bounds of our capacity.
To leave out those who can not pay
Diminishes society.

What sense is there in having more?
We know it doesn't make us free
For more will never be enough.
What good is this disparity?

The reason we should not feel pride
In charity philosophy
Is numbers of unfortunate
Reveal our inhumanity.

EAGLES' VISION

Just Imagine.jpg

IMAGINE

The eagles' eyes are so alive;
Their soaring so assured.
It is no wonder men of old
Adopted this great bird

To symbolize how we can feel
When our activity
Is only that which can take us
Toward what we can be.

We should look up and contemplate
The message that it brings.
When freed, our spirit too can soar
As if on eagle's wings.

Had we the vision eagles have
When soaring on their wings,
Forever we would be released
From all those worldly things

That are attempts to fill "the void"
Found under "the last why."
Instead, we would "reach out..." and be;
And with the eagles fly.

BELIEFS

There was a time beliefs were not,
Before our 'Mother' gave us thought
Which found then fought the void within
With made beliefs to help us win.

And now because we can't agree
There is one reason we should be,
Our senses we behind us leave
To fight for what is make-believe.

Biology can tell us why
For our beliefs we shouldn't die.
Each gives us a concocted name
Without which we are all the same.

We have unique capacities
That by our realizing frees
Us from beliefs that can't succeed
In giving us the life we need.

Instead they're causing fatal strife
That will no doubt destroy our life.
For life we have to heed the call
To see the ideal view for all.

MOTHER'S LEAVING

Mom's ninety-one; death has to come
Yet sadness I know still.
But in her space I won't remain
When eyes begin to fill.

I'll show her only happiness
And not the pain inside
By going deep within to where
Fond memories reside.

And when I can't contain my tears
The place that I will go
Is out into our garden where
They'll make her flowers grow.

MOTHER'S DREAM
MOTHER'S GAMES
MOTHER'S HOPE
MOTHER'S MARKET MEMORY
MOTHER'S MEMORIAL BENCH
MOTHER'S SAD ATTACK
MOTHER'S WAR
MOTHER'S WAKE

PARADISE

God gave us nature's Paradise,
To reach out to what we can be.
We could have lived that way for life
But in our way was that damn tree.

God told her not to pick the 'fruit'.
But she chose not to heed Her voice.
If it's forbad, it must be good
She thought, and so she made the choice

To ask the question “Why am I?”,
Which gave birth to humanity.
He searched his mind but couldn’t find
The reason they were meant to be.

He’d feared unknowns but this was new.
External ones he could avoid.
This new one though was in his mind
And so he tried to fill the void.

He couldn’t for it can’t be filled,
And still we try at deadly cost.
With every try to fill the void
Some more of Paradise is lost.

There’s not much left. Though time is short
We still could turn ourselves around.
Instead of looking in reach out
To where our Paradise is found.
